Putnam Health Department Promotes No Vape November

Cookeville, Tenn. – The Putnam County Health Department is recognizing No Vape November to raise awareness about Tennessee’s youth vaping epidemic, and to promote the resources available to prevent and stop vaping.

“It’s extremely important to keep engaging with our youth to prevent them from using any form of nicotine products,” Director Lisa Bumbalough of Putnam County Health Department said. “Tobacco use is still one of the top causes of death in Tennessee and this generation could put an end to that. It’s amazing to see the youth in our community serving as advocates for preventing tobacco and nicotine addiction.”

The U.S. Surgeon General recently declared the use of electronic cigarettes among youth an epidemic. A 2022 study from the FDA and CDC estimated more than 2.5 million U.S. middle and high school students reported currently using electronic cigarettes. In Tennessee, nearly 1 in 5 high school students reported using electronic in the 2021 Tennessee Youth Risk Behavior Survey.

The Tennessee Department of Health, through the TNSTRONG program, has distributed No Vape November toolkits to the State’s local health departments.
